In this passage, Jesus prepares His disciples for the road ahead—a road marked by danger, hostility, and suffering, yet sustained by divine help and enduring hope.

 

Proposition

Jesus gives five truths you must know to remain faithful when persecution comes.

1. Jesus tells them who sent them (v. 16).
2. Jesus warns them about religious and political persecution (vv. 17–18).
3. Jesus addresses their anxiety (vv. 19–20).
4. Jesus warns of persecution from family and others (vv. 21–22a).
5. Jesus gives hope (vv. 22b–23).
